PowereX was named as finalist of the The smarter E AWARD 2026 in the category "Outstanding Projects" for the application "From Backup to Value: AI Telecom Virtual Power Plant".
In Slovakia, the backup power infrastructure of the telecommunications sector is being interconnected through AI to form a virtual power plant. Around 2,000 decentralized UPS systems are coordinated and controlled, while uninterrupted power supply and their core emergency backup function remain fully intact at all times. Without requiring additional hardware, the existing infrastructure unlocks new potential: peak load reduction and grid support services create additional revenue streams and improve the integration of renewable energy. A predictive, real-time control system optimizes charging behavior while taking availability requirements into account. Thanks to high-frequency data acquisition, what was previously a non-dispatchable infrastructure is aggregated into a market-relevant flexibility resource.
