SMA Solar Technology was named as finalist of the The smarter E AWARD 2026 in the category "Outstanding Projects" for the application "100 % Solar Powered EV-Charging-Station".
On Gran Canaria, a fully off-grid solar charging solution for electric vehicles has been implemented. The system combines 150 kWp of PV capacity, 510 kWh of battery storage, and three inverters with four charging stations (300 kW total). This creates a reliable charging infrastructure powered exclusively by solar energy—even in a challenging coastal environment. The project serves as a blueprint for sustainable mobility in regions with weak or non-existent power grids, such as islands, rural areas, or protected natural zones. It demonstrates a clean alternative to diesel generators and highlights how decentralized energy systems can accelerate the transition to zero-emission transportation.
