Sungrow Hydrogen was named as finalist of the The smarter E AWARD 2026 in the category "Outstanding Projects" for the application "Daye Hydrogen Energy Mining Project".
At a decommissioned mine in China, a hydrogen storage facility has been built in a repurposed rock cavern. A 300 MW solar park on the slopes of the former copper mine generates around 400 GWh of electricity annually, which is converted into approximately 1,500 tons of green hydrogen using alkaline and PEM electrolyzers. The combination of both electrolysis technologies brings together cost efficiency and flexibility, delivering hydrogen with a purity of 99.999 %. Since April 2025, the facility has been supplying numerous hydrogen-powered vehicles, including buses. The project demonstrates how former mining sites can be rehabilitated and repurposed as energy hubs for renewable energy.
