LONGi Hydrogen was named as winner of the The smarter E AWARD 2025 in the Category "Oustanding Projects" for the application 3000 Nm³/h Electrolyzer in Hydrogen-Rich Blast Furnace Smelting.
LONGi Hydrogen’s winning entry is a green hydrogen project in Qinhuangdao, China. At this steelmaking site, fossil fuels are being replaced with zero-carbon energy in blast furnace smelting. The project features two industrial electrolyzers powered by integrated tail gas and renewable energy. Each has a production capacity of 3,000 Nm3 which LONGi claims is the largest in the world. The units can be retrofitted cost effectively, with minimal changes to existing infrastructure. The highly efficient system uses just 4.2 kilowatt-hours for each normal cubic meter of green hydrogen produced. It reduces blast furnace CO2 emissions by 8 to 11 percent, delivering environmental and economic savings. Our judges praised this groundbreaking project for demonstrating how hard-to-abate industries can transition to green energy.
