NexWafe was named as winner of the The smarter E AWARD 2024 in the Category "Photovoltaics" for the application EpiNex.
The manufacturing process to turn high-purity polycrystalline silicon into silicon wafers is by far the most energy-intensive and time-consuming part of the value-added chain of silicon-based PV modules. The epitaxial growth of wafers directly from the vapor phase can skip over this chain and therefore offers considerable energy saving potential and, currently, often the chance to cut down on carbon emissions. This also significantly reduces manufacturing costs. NexWafe has developed this process to industrial maturity. EpiNex wafers have a very high material quality, which enables the same solar cell efficiency as high-quality, conventional monocrystalline wafers. The proprietary process also enables the production of very thin wafers less than 100 µm thick.
